Hyundai Kona named Finalist for 2019 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year
2018/11/28
LOS ANGELES, November 28, 2018 – The Hyundai Kona was named a top-three finalist for 2019 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The winners of the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) awards will be announced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this coming January.
“We would like to express our gratitude to the NACTOY jurors for their recognition of the Hyundai Kona,” said Don Romano, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. “We are thrilled at the response we’ve received from journalists, but also our customers, who have made the Kona the top-selling all-new vehicle in Canada this year.”
NACTOY jurors, composed of an independent panel of journalists and analysts based in Canada and the United States, have recognized top cars, trucks, and utility vehicles since 1994. This year’s jury of 54, of which eight are Canadian, represents legacy newspapers and magazine experts, broadcast veterans, digital columnists, and freelancers.
With a strong, impactful design and uncompromised individuality, the Kona is Hyundai’s first entry into the fast-growing subcompact SUV segment and was designed to appeal to modern customers with active lifestyles. The Kona serves as Hyundai’s answer to rapidly changing customer preferences towards technology, style, and flexibility. This vehicle stands in a growing line-up of Hyundai SUVs, including the compact Tucson and intermediate Santa Fe. These will soon be joined by Hyundai’s largest SUV yet, the three-row Palisade, which is being revealed today at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

We think you’ll like this, too:
Not interested in making lackluster products, Hyundai has taken tangible steps to rise above its competition and those efforts are obvious in the Korean brand’s new Kona, its first subcompact crossover.
The Kona’s cute, it starts cheap and – with the turbo – it’s more fun to drive than you’d expect.
The one aspect of Kona’s performance that is beyond expectations is its ride and handling.
